Educational Reports for 1884, vir. (1) The report of the Inspector of Schools (the pres
(Dr Eitel); and (2) The Report of the
Head Master of the Central School,
or Victoria College, (M. Bateson Wright).
2.
These Reports are of a
very satisfactory character. The
progress shown in
- paragraph 2 of - the first Report is particularly
remarkable. It will be seen that
there are now 51 more Schools and
3322 more Scholars under løvernment supervision than there were
ten
years
years age. In other words, the m number of both School and __ Scholars has doubled during that
ت
period. It should be remembered,
moreover, that little
the
more
than
twenty years have clapsed since
Government took up systematic Educational work in Hongkong; and
that the mixed nature of the population (although the Chinese form the overwhelming majority),
increases the practical
greatly
difficulty of this work.
